This course is designed to give participants the knowledge and skills required to select, implement and analyse a range of training evaluation methods, to suit different needs and requirements.

This course is most relevant to trainers or training managers who wish to design and implement effective evaluation and assessment tools and strategies

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  • explain the different approaches to evaluation and assessment and list their advantages and disadvantages
  • identify the needs of different stakeholders in the process
  • outline an appropriate evaluation strategy for a training course or other learning event
  • identify the factors to take into account when analysing and rep[orting on information on evaluation and assessment

1. Introduction to evaluation and assessment

  • stakeholders in the process
  • model of evaluation
  • overview of methods for evaluating different learning interventions including courses, self-development, e-learning, coaching etc
  • issues that affect your choice of method including reliability, validity, control groups and sampling, availability of supporting low and high technology

 

Level 1 Reaction-level evaluation

  • range of methods in addition to end of session/course reaction sheets
  • analysing and presenting reaction-level information
  • low- and high-tech analysis options

Level 2 Measuring learning during training

  • range of methods
  • issues in assessing learning fairly and appropriately
  • process for designing knowledge and skills tests.
